The predicted bad weather held out long enough for 20 brave riders to complete the 20 mile course along the length of Perryville Road. We set out from Kegel Harley Davidson about 10 a.m. and headed north. The wind was damp and chilly but the group was determined to have some fun. Our first stop at Meg’s Daily Grind helped get everyone energized with warm beverages and delicious muffins. Furry Little Buddy tagged along and enjoyed the tasty treats while offering encouragement to the riders. We made our way over the hills and through the construction along Perryvile Road to reach the mid-way point at the Swanson Road roundabout. Still windy but clear skies continue. A few more hills conquered. As we ride, It’s always great to see the faces of drivers when they notice our fur covered bikes and offer a smile or words of encouragement. Another quick break at RBI’s Bar and Grill for some wings and pizza. The group entered the home stretch to the finish and the clouds just couldn’t hold on to their rain any longer. A few miles riding in a light drizzle wasn’t too bad. We made it back to Kegel Harley Davidson and were escorted across the finish line by a few of the clients served by the Fish-Abled Foundation.
A portion of the money raised from the Furryville Ride for Charity are given to a great local charity, The Fish-Abled Foundation. They are a not-for-profit organization in Rockford, IL that helps disabled persons participate and attend social activities such as baseball games, fishing outings, concerts, bowling outings, etc. free of charge.
This year, Team Fur Bandit was able to present The Fish-Abled Foundation with a check for $470!
